Five thousand years, one character at a time.

What this is
An independent project, run by one individual creator, tracing five thousand years of Chinese history through two things: how a single Chinese character was written across three millennia, and how each dynasty saw itself.
Nothing here is generated by AI. The forms are drawn from source material, and ancient script is copied from the artefacts — not invented.
This is a personal reading, not an academic institution. Where sources are contested, the disagreement is left visible rather than smoothed over.
Take something with you
Thirty-two phone wallpapers, made from ink on paper. Free, no account, no email required — take them and use them.
The character series is the other half of the work: one character followed through oracle bone script, bronze inscription, seal, clerical and regular script. That series is being released gradually.
What’s inside
The site itself is written in Chinese. These are the parts worth knowing about:
- Five Thousand Years — a continuous record across sixteen dynasties, from the legendary age to the end of the imperial era. (Chinese)
- Dao Jing — notes on the idea that runs underneath the whole project. (Chinese)
- The Collection — downloadable works and editions. (Chinese)
English coverage is thin for now. It will grow — but I would rather show you one clear page than a machine-translated mirror of the whole site.
